Why product measurements will give you the best maternity fit

Maternity clothes are measured by hand to help find your best fit. Product measurements on listed on individual product pages.

We recommend comparing to a similar item of clothing you own.

If a product is missing measurements in your size, email hello@the-fourth.ca with the product name and the size you would like. We are a small business and do our best to include all measurements when we can.

Maternity clothes like women's clothing vary by brand. We recommend looking at the size chart for each business for additional sizing help in the individual product photos and/or description.

How do I measure my clothes?

1. Lay your clothing on a flat surface.
2. Take measurements (of the bust, hips, waist, etc.) from the outside.

Do I choose my pre-pregnancy size?

In most cases, yes!

What maternity size should I buy as a first time mom?

We recommend choosing your pre-pregnancy size for the best fit. If you are inbetween sizes, size up.

First trimester is usually when moms start looking for maternity clothes, when the bloating starts and zippers don't zip.

What maternity size to buy for a second, third, etc. pregnancy?

If you're buying maternity clothes for a second, third, etc. pregnancy, we recommend buying your pre-pregnancy size or sizing up if you notice you are bigger this pregnancy.

What maternity size to buy if you're having multiples?

If you're having multiples, we recommend sizing up. You may find during your third trimester, you will need to size up 2 sizes.

Do I need to size up?

We recommend sizing up if you are having multiples, are in-between sizes, or like a relaxed to oversized fit.

What is One Size?

One Size means that the clothing is made in one size. The clothes fit over a range of sizes because of the materials or the way it is made.

Typically, One Size clothing has a high amount of stretchy materials like rayon and spandex.

What nursing size should I buy?

In general, choose your pre-pregnancy size.

If you like a roomier fit or notice a significant change in your bust size, size up.

What nursing bra size should I buy in the third trimester?

If you're buying nursing bras in the third trimester, we recommend sizing up. Nursing bras with bra extenders are recommended.

We recommend buying a small number of nursing bras in your third trimester as your bust size will change once your milk comes in.

Bras with no extenders may stretch out during this time.

What nursing bra size should I buy 1-8 weeks after giving birth?

We recommend sizing up. As your milk comes in, your milk supply will fluctuate during the first 2 months postpartum. You will be engorged and we recommend sizing up during this time.

Bras with no extenders may stretch out during this time.

What nursing bra size should I buy after 8 weeks postpartum?

We recommend choosing your current size. This is the time to stock up on nursing bras as your milk supply will have settled.
